Hannah Bedford graduated from the prestigious Birmingham School of Jewellery with a first class honours degree in 2004 and has been represented at Collect and exhibited at Origin. Her studio is at Cockpit Arts Deptford, the heart of South London’s creative community.
Hannah Bedford jewellery designs explore texture and form using the traditional processes of granulation and Keum-boo (fine gold fusing). Working in golds and silver, Hannah Bedford creates a range of women’s jewellery, from bespoke neckpieces through to delicate earrings and rings.
Collections are inspired by organic growth patterns in the natural world. Hannah Bedford uses gold fusing and granulation to create raised, textured surfaces that entwine each piece and takes great care to work on the underside of a piece. The work is often led by these technical explorations, using them to play with scale, form and contrasting precious metals to create aesthetically beautiful forms.

Sian Elizabeth Hughes is the third of the fantastic independent jewellers we’re adding to our roster in June and July 2011. She’s sent us these sneak peak pictures of her Florish collection that will be arriving with us shortly.

After finishing her BA(hons) Degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing, Sian Elizabeth Hughes completed a six month residency before opening her studio in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
Whilst studying for her degress Sian Elizabeth Hughes’ work evolved to rely on simplicity and sensitivity to the materials, forms, colours and textures. Her work takes inspiration from natural forms and Sian enjoys creating simple, honest forms, she aspires to create desirable and precious three-dimensional objects that can adorn the body.
Sian Elizabeth Hughes cuts, forms and finishes all of the elements in her Florish collection by hand, she enjoys making her pieces by hand as it gives her as much contact as possible with each piece to ensure the composition is correct and says that character and indiviuality are very important to the process of designing and making, as is attention to detail.

We’ll let you know as soon as Sian Elizabeth Hughes jewellery arrives here at Plush and you’ll be able to view and buy her jewellery at http://plushjewellery.co.uk/sianelizabethhughes.asp

Tracey Birchwood Porcelain Jewellery – New at Plush Jewellery

Tracey Birchwood Tassel Porecelain Pendant - Blue and Silver - £156

Tracey Birchwood Tassel Porecelain Pendant - Blue and Silver - £156

We weren’t expecting a parcel to arrive from Tracey Birchwood Porcelain Jewellery so quickly!
We were only introduced to Tracey’s fantastic wire wrapped porcelain jewellery a few weeks ago by our chum Ralph who said we had to take a look at it because he knew we’d love it and he wasn’t wrong.
Tracey Birchwood Porcelain Jewellery is made from porcelain intricately wrapped with very fine wire. Geometric patterns feature strongly in all Tracey Birchwood jewellery and all the surface decoration is precisely applied by hand by Tracey in her studio at the Manchester Craft and Desin Centre in the city’s Nothern Quarter.
The original Tracey Birchwood collection incorporates silver wire with coloured porcelain and each piece has a subtle yet glittery appearance. In contrast the funky collection incorporates a medley of strong vibrant colours in bold stripes and checks. This innovative range combines Tracey’s trademark porcelain with enamelled copper wire.
The ‘Tassel’ collection is more glamorous! Each individual piece of jewellery combines very simple fittings with multiple porcelain drops.
Tracey Birchwood graduated in 3-Dimensional Design from Brighton University where she majored in ceramics. Tracey is from Manchester and after her degree she moved back home and in 1996 established her studio at the Manchester Craft and Desin Centre.
You can see (and purchase) Tracey Birchwood Porcelain Jewellery over at the Plush Jewellery website www.plushjewellery.co.uk/traceybirchwood.asp

We’re adding another jeweller to our roster of fantastic independent designer makers in the next few weeks. We’ve had our eye on the work of the lovely Sonya Bennett for a while now and we’re thrilled that she has chosen to show her gorgeous jewellery with us here at Plush.

‘Sonya Bennett is among the UK’s leading designers of contemporary precious jewellery. Having studied Jewellery & Silversmithing in Sheffield, she established her first workshop in 1998.

All of Sonya’s jewellery is designed and made exclusively in her Somerset workshop, which produces two sets of collections annually, each spring & autumn. In sterling silver or gold and often with semi-precious stones and pearls, Sonya’s distinctive work shows a degree of warmth and romance rarely seen in contemporary designer jewellery.

Our tagline ‘British designs inspired by nature, love and art’ tells you much about Sonya’s design influences. Many of these take inspiration from botanical and other natural forms, including first-hand observations from nature; others from sources as diverse as eighteenth century Japanese illustrations and Romantic & Pre-Raphaelite symbolism. Sonya’s aim is to enhance the beauty and femininity of those who wear her jewellery.’

We’ll let you know as soon as Sonya’s jewellery arrives at Plush, but do consider signing up for the Plush Jewellery Newsletter and the information will land in your inbox.

5 Questions with Kimberley Selwood

Kimberley Selwood Jeweller

Kimberley Selwood Jeweller

Award winning Kimberley Selwood is passionate about jewellery. Her attention to detail and compassion for design has won her the prestigious New Designers Award for Jewellery and her jewellery is now part of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths Modern Greats Collection. We asked her five questions.
Where is your studio? My studio is in West London near Portabello Road.
Where do you find your inspiration? Mainly from organic forms, I take many photos and sketch from them. I also love architecture, and often within architecture natural forms are used and interpreted which makes another starting point for design.
What was the first piece of jewellery you ever made? When I was a child I always made friendship bracelets and beaded necklaces but the first piece of proper jewellery I made was a simple silver band ring that I made in an evening class. Thankfully my technical skills have developed a lot since then.
Who is/was your favourite jeweller? I love Georges Fouquet and Rene Lalique, they both have such skill and delicacy to the work.
If you weren’t a jeweller, what would you be? Hmm, I’m sure it would be in art and design somewhere, but also possible a chef.
and finally What is your biscuit of choice when enjoying a cup of tea and a think? Got to be a rich tea. Simple but effective.

Kimberley creates the fantastic Buttefly Effect collection of jewellery that cause so many people to pause mid-stride to look into Plush Jewellery’s windows.
