JB & MC 28th April 1874

With the price of Gold and other precious metals riding high at the moment we find ourselves increasingly using clients’ old family jewellery in the making of their new jewellery. We had a meeting with a client on Saturday who had been given a number of old pieces of jewellery that had lived in a box, under a bed for some time. It had just been sitting there, why not make use of it.

I always make a photographic record of any jewellery we take in to be upcycled or repurposed and as I was photographing this particular collection of rings and pins, I noticed the engraving inside two of the rings…

These two rings don’t appear to have started life together; the patterned band was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1873 and the narrower band bears Scottish hallmarks but they have travelled together for nearly one hundred and thrity eight years.

‘I don’t want more choice, I just want nicer things’ – Chris Hawkins Gents Jewellery

Chris Hawkins Jewellery Designer Skull and Claw Pendant

Chris Hawkins Jewellery Designer Skull and Claw Pendant

A parcel arrived this morning, one of those parcels that makes a Friday in June feel like Christmas Day. It was sent by Chris Hawkins, a jewellery designer of enormous talent and contained pieces from his gents range of jewellery. We’ve been looking for gents jewellery with a difference for a while now and Chris’ pieces tick all our boxes and we know they’ll tick yours too.

About Chris Hawkins
‘An early interest in sculpture, and a fascination with the miniature led me into jewellery making. My work combines the highest level of craftsmanship with a sense of wonder and discovery, as the closer and longer you look, the more you will see. While highly informed by fashion my work is also tactile, pleasing to both the hand and eye. In recent years I have become increasingly known for, and concentrated on, collections for men. I was trained in the traditional goldsmiths apprenticeship.’

UPDATE 10th June – Chris Hawkins Jewellery now available to buy online from Plush Jewellery – follow this link.

Commissions

Jewellery Commission - Hinged Palladium Wedding Band

There’s going to be a time when you’re looking for that special piece of jewellery for yourself or one of your beloveds, that piece of jewellery that can’t be found on the high street. Commissioning jewellery provides you with the opportunity to create that perfect unique piece.

Commissioning jewellery can sound daunting but it really isn’t. We work with over two dozen high quality UK jewellery designers and this gives us fantastic flexibility when it comes to making those jewellery dreams a reality. The distinctive styles of these craftspeople can be utilised in creating your jewellery.

All you need to provide us with are a few ideas about the piece you are looking for and the person who will be receiving it and we can start on the commissioning process. We’ll consult with you at every step of the process, from the initial sketches until the piece in finally completed, it couldn’t be easier.

We firmly believe that commissioning a piece of jewellery should be as simple as buying a piece out of the shop window.
